Chase-Green sworn in as Georgetown Deputy Mayor
THE new Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Mrs. Patricia Chase-Green was sworn in yesterday. Recently elected at a statutory meeting of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC), she took the oath of office before President Donald Ramotar at Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.
The 60-year-old pledged to execute her duties diligently and without fear or favour, in the presence of Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Norman Whittaker; and Permanent Secretary in that ministry, Mr. Collin Croal.
Other Councillors and City Hall officials were also present at the ceremony.
Chase-Green expressed thanks to the Mayor and Councillors for their confidence in her and spoke about her plans to work in accordance with the laws of Guyana, as well as with Government for the betterment of the country.
She said her intention is to help restore the capital to its days as a garden city.
President Ramotar noted that Chase-Green is taking up the office of their late friend, Mr. Robert Williams, who made a major contribution to the city.

CHALLENGES
The Head of State observed that Chase-Green is assuming the position at a time when there are a lot of challenges in the city, but he, nevertheless, is looking forward to working with her.
Following the formalities, Chase-Green reiterated, to reporters, that her aim is to encourage both the public and private sectors to work along with City Hall and Government to help restore Georgetown to its former glory.
She, too, acknowledged that there is a lot to be done under a number of constraints at present.
Social development is among her priority areas of interests, along with the Council’s maternal and child welfare department and daycare centres.
“We offer a service from the womb to the grave,” she said.
Chase-Green had been discharging the duties of the former Deputy Mayor while he was ill but Williams, regrettably, died at the Caribbean Heart Institute of Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) earlier this year.
His successor told this newspaper that she intends to work along with Mayor Hamilton Green to ensure that the duties given her are executed successfully.
